Parents aren’t the only ones who can fight the implementation of a mandatory school uniform policy. Our students can have a voice too – they just need to make themselves heard.
Here are some things you can do:
- Talk to your friends. The more people who are aware of this issue and who comment against it, the better the chances of defeating this policy before it ever gets implemented.
- Talk to your parents. Ask them to oppose the uniform policy.
- Call the school board at 407-870-1234. Give them your name and school, and tell them you are opposed to the uniform policy and why. Be polite; they will disregard any comments that sound like a rant, are abusive, or use profanity.
- Send an e-mail to the editor of the Orlando Sentinel at insight@orlandosentinel.com. Notice this letter that they published by some elementary students in Maitland.
- Come to the School Board meeting on April 15. Speak to the board about your concerns. Tell them why you don’t want to wear a uniform.
- Send us an e-mail at StopOsceolaUniforms@yahoo.com. We’ll let you know of other opportunities to protest school uniforms before the school board votes.
Don’t let the Osceola School Board take away your right to free expression and turn you into little Barbie and Ken dolls. You have to opportunity to help put an end to school uniforms in Osceola County. Your future is in your hands.

Finally someone decided to ask us what we think. We're the ones that have to wear the uniforms, after all!
And I say no!
Me and my friends already called and some of us are going to the meeting.
Yeah, like the old guys on the school board have a clue about fashion.
Why not orange jumpsuits? Let the children wear what they want to school and then in homeroom they put on orange jumpsuits. I'm sure thay can get a deal on the cost by purchasing the from the FDOC. Some of these students will be wearing orange jumpsuits later on in life, so call it a learning experience for them now. See, I just solved the issue for both sides. We can all work together. Let the gang bangers force us to make stupid policies. Then make them wear orange jumpsuits for a fashion statement now.
Why do they want us to dress like crap?
Sounds like uniforms don't help, so why are they making us wear them? This is stupid!
Well let's tell the old guys that we just won't do it. What are they going to do, send us all home. If everybody ignores the uniform, there's nothing they can do.
I thought we beat the Nazis. Looks like they are back.
I always follow the dress code and now I'm being punished? Can the school board be fired?
